It seems almost everywhere I go, service managers are looking to hire technicians, service advisors, and other support staff. I urge you to search for these people even during the Holidays. Who knows? Maybe your available position would be the greatest gift of all to a family that needs stability and a great future.
Make sure that you don't forget to seek applicants from a local, or not-so-local technical college. These colleges are turning out young people with a desire to be in the automotive field....so much so that many have attained loans, but all have made a committment. Sure, they are not Level 4 certified, but let's take a look in the mirror. These requirements have been evolving for a few years now, and that's given us enough time to meet most of our needs.
Don't be hasty in reviewing resumes. I see too many managers doing this. They may say, "Oh, they only have been out of tech school for 4 months, and now they're looking to move?" Let's get them in the door and talk to them. Who knows what situation they walked into. They might be your best technician given a few years and your direction.
Let's get ready for the greatest 2015 Fixed Operations Year Ever!
