Making the tough decisions can have an incredible impact on the forward movement of your business. I can remember years ago that I had a technician who was one of the highest producers and with few comebacks. He could virtually fix any issue and do it quickly and efficiently. The problem was that he had a bad attitude and brought the whole team down. I can remember that I was fed up with his negativity and we went head to head. I finally told him to pack his tool box up and leave. And he was the only Master technician I had. The sickened feeling gathered up inside of me as I watched the toolbox being loaded onto the flatbed truck. As he left, and as things calmed down a little, one of my other technicians came up to me and said, "It's about time. We were all sick of coming to work and listening to that." And, as it turned out, the team grew stronger and the financial numbers grew.
Years later I ran into this technician, and of course, he found another home that was better suited for him, and you know how my story ends. It was a win-win for everyone.
